Even before the development of the new joint sub-speciality “Specialised Traumatology” by representatives of the Swiss Society of Surgery (SGC), swiss orthopaedics (SO) and the Swiss Society of General Surgery and Traumatology (SGACT), the SGACT decided to focus on traumatology in future. In this sense, the STS is to be understood as the successor organisation to the SGACT. The renaming to STS and a comprehensive amendment to the Statutes (Link to STS Statutes) were decided at the regular general meeting of the SGACT on 06.09.2023 in Biel and came into effect on 01.01.2024. The interests of general surgery will be represented by the SGC in future. However, the STS is no longer the sub-speciality society for the new interdisciplinary sub-speciality “Specialised Traumatology”. This is under the joint responsibility of the SGC and swiss orthopaedics. Nevertheless, the STS is represented by its exponents in various commissions and contributes constructively.
